History
The Rice Ballroom Team was founded as a formation dance team in the Fall of 2010. Over the last several years, we have grown into a competitive ballroom team with an emphasis on performing and developing new skills in a fun and recreational environment.
Who We Are
We are a group of undergraduate and graduate students who love to dance and have a fun time doing it! Our team focuses on beginner and intermediate skills, and we encourage each other to dance and perform in both social and competitive environments.
What We Do
At Rice Ballroom, we offer our members classes twice a week in both ballroom and Latin dance. We also perform at student dance showcases and encourage members to compete in ballroom competitions across Texas, including those designed specifically for college students. One of the highlights is our very own “Dancing with Owls” competition!
For non-members, we host social dancing events about once a semester. These events are open to any student, regardless of dancing experience – we’ll teach you the dance at the event. We’d love to see you there!
Our Location
Most practices and rehearsals take place in the Rice Memorial Center Grand Hall or a multipurpose room in the Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation Center. Contact us for exact practice times and locations!
